What is a case converter?
A case converter changes the letter case of a text without rewriting it: turning a block written all in UPPERCASE into normal lowercase, or the other way around. It is one of the most common text-editing tasks and, done by hand, one of the most tedious.
Our converter automates that work. You paste the text, pick a mode and get the result instantly, with no extra "convert" button to press. The tool is not limited to uppercase and lowercase: it offers six different modes that cover almost any formatting need.
Unlike copying and pasting into a word processor, converting case in the browser is immediate, leaves the rest of the document untouched and keeps accents and the ñ intact. The whole process runs on your computer, so the text never leaves your device.
How to convert case in 3 steps
Paste your text
Copy the text from Word, a PDF, an email or a social network and paste it into the "Original text" box.
Pick a mode
Click UPPERCASE, lowercase, Sentence case, Title Case, inverse or alternate. The conversion is instant.
Copy or download
Copy the result to the clipboard with one click or download it as a .txt text file.
The 6 conversion modes explained
Each mode solves a different formatting problem. Knowing them helps you pick the right one without trying them all.
UPPERCASE
Turns every letter into a capital. Useful for headlines, acronyms, posters or headers where you want emphasis. Example: "word counter" becomes "WORD COUNTER".
lowercase
Sends every letter to lowercase. It is the star mode when you receive a text written entirely in capitals (block emails, badly filled forms) and need to restore a readable format.
Sentence case
Capitalizes only the first letter of each sentence and leaves the rest lowercase, like well-written prose. It recognizes Spanish opening marks: after a ¿ or ¡ it also capitalizes the next word.
Title Case
Capitalizes the first letter of every word. It is the typical format for English titles, compound proper nouns or table headers. Example: "style guide" becomes "Style Guide".
iNVERSE
Flips the existing format: what was uppercase becomes lowercase and vice versa. It fixes, in one click, a text typed with the Caps Lock key on by mistake.
aLtErNaTe
Alternates uppercase and lowercase letter by letter to create the visual effect typical of memes and social media. It is a decorative mode, ideal for casual posts.
What is a case converter for?
Converting case is useful in many more contexts than it seems. These are the most common use cases.
Emails written in capitals
Receiving a whole email in CAPITALS is like being shouted at. Switching it to sentence case makes it professional and easy to read before you forward or quote it.
Legal and official documents
Many forms and official documents require data in capitals. The converter lets you meet that requirement without retyping names or addresses by hand.
Social media and marketing
Adjust the format of headlines, captions and ads. Title case makes headers stand out and alternate mode creates the visual effect of viral memes.
Programming and data cleanup
Before importing lists into a database it helps to normalize the format. Sending names and categories to lowercase avoids duplicates caused by case differences.
Converting in the browser vs. in Word or Excel
Word and Excel can also change case, but with limits. This table compares both options.
