What is a vowel and consonant counter?
A vowel and consonant counter is a tool that analyses a text and splits each letter into its category: the five vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and the rest of the consonants. It also gives you the total number of letters, digits, spaces and a breakdown of how many times each vowel appears.
The most useful part is that it understands Spanish: accented letters (á, é, í, ó, ú) and the u with dieresis (ü) count as their base vowel, and ñ is classified as a consonant. This way the count of vowels and consonants is true to the real spelling, without double-counting or ignoring accented letters.

How letters are classified
Vowels
There are five: a, e, i, o, u. Their accented forms (á, é, í, ó, ú) and the dieresis (ü) count as the same vowel, because they mark stress or pronunciation, not a different letter.
Consonants
They are the rest of the alphabet, including ñ. Digraphs such as "ch", "ll" and "rr" are counted as the individual letters that form them, following the current rule that no longer treats "ch" or "ll" as independent letters.
Digits, spaces and symbols
Numbers, blank spaces and punctuation marks are counted separately and are not added to the letters, so the total of vowels and consonants reflects only the alphabetic text.
