What is zalgo text?
Zalgo text is normal text with many Unicode combining marks added above, below and through each letter, creating that overflowing “corrupted” or “glitched” look.
The name comes from an internet meme, but the technique is real: Unicode lets you stack dozens of combining diacritical marks onto a single character. The more marks you stack, the more chaotic and “cursed” the result looks. Because they are standard characters, you can copy and paste them almost anywhere.

Zalgo, glitch and corrupted: what is the difference?
The three terms describe the same effect at different intensities. Glitch text is usually a light fault, with few marks, giving an “error” vibe without losing legibility. Corrupted text raises the amount of marks and starts to overflow. Zalgo or cursed text is the extreme version, with the letters almost buried under layers of symbols.
In practice it all comes down to one parameter: intensity. That is why this tool uses a slider and preset styles (Mild, Glitch, Corrupted, Cursed) so you move from one to another with a click.
How to control intensity and direction
Unlike other generators that only give one version, here you control two things. Intensity, with the slider, decides how many marks stack per letter: more percent, more chaos. And direction, with three independent toggles:
- Over: marks drawn above the letters.
- Middle: marks that go through the letters (some browsers show them as boxes).
- Under: marks that hang below.
You can enable just one direction for a cleaner effect, or all three for total chaos. The Regenerate button re-distributes the marks at random while keeping your settings, in case you want another variation.
How to remove zalgo from text
Sometimes you receive corrupted text and want it clean again, or you copied something with invisible marks that dirty the result. That is what the “Remove Zalgo” tab is for: paste the text and the tool strips all the combining marks, giving you back the readable base text.
It works with any zalgo text, wherever it comes from, because it simply removes the combining characters and keeps the original letters. For a more general format clean-up, you also have clean text.
